Jo Malone London English Pear & Sweetpea Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] So, I am somewhat divided on the new English Pear & Sweet Pea Cologne. I adore sweet peas – they’re really my favourite flower and this year is the first year I feel I’ve been successful with them after some disappointing attempts in previous years. I’ve had sweet peas all summer long and they’re still not over yet although the stems are very short now.

You do have to search for the sweet pea note – it’s there but you need to wait a while for it to subtly emerge. I expected more volume on that note but that said, sweet pea seems to be the perfect magnifier for pear which in this iteration is more beautiful than I’ve known it.

Small fact about the Jo Malone English Pear fragrance – they turned to the food industry to get the pear fragrance just perfect and did it by boiling pears (as a by product rather than wastefully), capturing the clouds of steam and using that to create the note in a natural extraction process. They estimate that each bottle of fragrance contains one whole pears’ worth of juicy extracts.

To me, the English Pear & Sweet Pea cologne is a whimsical summer note – for a wedding, a party, idling in a hammock – with freshness, lightness and mellowness on a white musk base. It’s calm, tender and gently powdery  that leaves a delicate trail on the skin. I think I’m distracted by the fact that I wanted it ALL sweet pea – maybe that will come! 30ml is £55 HERE.

I would also draw your attention to the limited edition English Pear & Freesia candle – never a more giftable thing with a little pear leaf on the top. The freesia variant of English Pear is more rosy with a base of patchouli – it’s the stronger of the two and more ‘bouquet’-ish. You can find the candle HERE for £59.
